Submitted by bjohnston on 21 August 2012

The Lung Association of Saskatchewan is pleased to announce that Roughrider Neal Hughes has agreed to act as ambassador for the 2012 Stamp Out Asthma Raffle which launches today.  Neal has been affected by asthma since childhood and understands the importance of raising funds to fight it.  Proceeds from the raffle support asthma programs, educational initiatives, and vital research to find a cure so that the 100,000 people in Saskatchewan affected by asthma can breathe a little easier.

With tickets officially going on sale today, we would love to give you the opportunity to win the grand prize of up to $123,375 in tax-free cash! Win the second prize and you could be going on an African safari, a trip to New Zealand, or a destination of your choice.  If you enjoy staying closer to home, you can always take the $10,000 cash pay-out instead.  Other prizes include: Rider Store gift cards, fish finders, and exciting electronics - we are giving away more prizes than ever!  Visit www.sk.lung.ca for a complete listing.

Tickets are still only $35 each, two for $60, or four for $100.  Purchase a four-pack and your name will be entered into a bonus draw for $1,444 cash.  Deadline to purchase tickets is midnight on November 30.  Draw will take place on December 7.

Funds raised through this project will:

  • Train certified asthma educators in your community to provide up-to-date information and support for good asthma management.
  • Provide access to current on-line or print information to help parents of children with asthma and persons with asthma and their families manage the disease.
  • Run the Asthma Help Line for Saskatchewan residents to call in to speak with a nationally certified asthma educator (1-888-566-LUNG).
  • Support globally-recognized researchers at the University of Saskatchewan in the study of asthma.

About Asthma - Asthma is a chronic lung disease which can result in breathing problems such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, or tightness in the chest. Asthma can develop at any age, but is most common in children. In Saskatchewan, 15% to 20% of our children have asthma. Approximately 60% of people with asthma between the ages of 18 and 54 do not have optimal control.  This leaves them open to frightening and sometimes life-threatening attacks!  Education and medication are currently our best tools for managing asthma while our researchers search diligently for a cure.  That is why your support of the 2012 Stamp Out Asthma Raffle is so important.

About The Lung Association - Established in 1911, The Lung Association is celebrating 101 years of service to the people of Saskatchewan.  We are Saskatchewan’s oldest health charity. You have come to know and trust The Lung Association as the premier source for lung health in our province. All of our quality educational materials, programs, services and treatment guidelines are based on current evidence-based research. You will find The Lung Association active in communities across Saskatchewan conducting lung disease prevention and management programs that include asthma, COPD, sleep apnea, lung cancer and smoking cessation. The Lung Association also provides training for health care professionals, delivers health education in schools, facilitates patient support groups, and lobbies for clean air.
