National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Submitted by orufai on 27 September 2024

As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, we honour the children and survivors of the residential school system. We all have a role in the journey toward truth and reconciliation, and at Lung Saskatchewan, we are committed to being an ally in reconciliation by specifically addressing Calls to Action #18–24, #57, and #69.  Our efforts include:

  • Education for health professionals: We offer culturally sensitive and affirming care training through webinars. We invite you to join our upcoming webinar, “A Public Health Perspective on Indigenous Health,” with Dr. Nathan Lachowsky on November 28.

  • Building partnerships: We are grateful for our growing collaborations within Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 territories. These partnerships support education on the distinctions between commercial and sacred tobacco, the harmful effects of tobacco and vaping on youth, and the Tuberculosis and Residential Schools project.

  • Providing training: We continue to engage our board and staff in training on cultural humility, land acknowledgment, anti-racism, and reconciliation, while also offering opportunities to participate in community events.

We will continue to reflect, learn, and seek the changes vital to advancing truth and reconciliation within our organization and community.
