Tobacco Retail Licensing Implemented

The Ministry of Finance Implements Tobacco Retail Licensing

Submitted by sdriedger on 21 March 2024

Lung Saskatchewan has advocated to the provincial government for decades to implement a licensing requirement for tobacco retailers in the province of Saskatchewan. We applaud the Government of Saskatchewan for announcing this measure in the 2024/2025 Provincial Budget.

"All tobacco retailers will be required to obtain a license to retail tobacco and to purchase tobacco from a licensed wholesaler starting October 1, 2024, and will be required to be licensed by December 31, 2004."

Lung Sask and Youth4Change have recommended this measure as it will require clerk training to help mitigate underage sales, and strengthen retailer enforcement efforts.
