The Lung Association Makes Changes to Their Volunteer Board of Directors and Presents
At a luncheon ceremony held April 16 in Regina, the Lung Association of Saskatchewan expressed profound gratitude to those who have retired from board duties, welcomed four new members to their volunteer Board of Directors, and celebrated the achievements of volunteers and staff.
Firstly our four retiring board members include: J.Wilf Churchman (Regina), Jim Sinclair (Regina), Cornie Unger (Swift Current) and Joan Bellegarde (Fort Qu'Appelle). While Joan Bellegarde, Executive Director of the File Hills Qu'Appelle Tribal Council, is not able to continue as a board member she will remain as a special advisor to the board. "The promotion of lung health within our province is advanced because of the skill sets and dedication that these distinguished individuals contributed to the management and direction of the Lung Association," says Brian Graham, the Lung Association's President and CEO.
Newly elected members to the Board of Directors are: Helen Cotton who practices law in Saskatoon; Regina resident Violet Stanger who currently sits on the Sherwood Credit Union Board, Conexus Credit Union Board and SIAST Board; Pat Smith of Regina is a Pharmacy Manager for Canada Safeway and a certified Asthma Educator; and Saskatoon resident Al Hattie who is semi-retired from his insurance business in Saskatoon. Robert Ferguson of Fort Qu'Appelle was elected for another term as the Volunteer Board Chair of the Board of Directors.
Three awards were formally presented for distinguished service. The Honourable John Nilson received the prestigious Award of Merit for his outstanding leadership in producing effective and world precedent-setting tobacco control legislation for our province. The Certificate of Appreciation was presented to CTV's weatherman, Tom Brown for outstanding personal and professional support of the Lung Association's programs and services to promote lung health. The President and CEO of the Canadian Lung Association, Deirdre Freiheit awarded Fran Hill the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. As a respiratory therapist for the Lung Association, Fran assumed a key role on the Canadian Lung Association Sleep Apnea Working Group in the creation of the ˜Sleep Apnea Handbook' that is used extensively in both Canada and the United States.
For 102 years the people of Canada have been well served by the Canadian Lung Association family. In this province, the Lung Association of Saskatchewan is the organization that continues to build on a legacy of community service in lung health and a heritage of lung health promotion and education. With the generous support of our volunteers and donations from the public, the Lung Association is able to provide a wealth of resources and programs to the public.
