Tobacco

Tobacco is a plant (Nicotiana tabacum and Nicotiana rustica) that contains the addictive chemical nicotine. There are many uses of tobacco including commercial and traditional tobacco use. Traditional tobacco is cultivated and used as a sacred and healing herb by Indigenous peoples in North America. Tobacco is also produced commercially across the world and sold for profit. Common commercial tobacco products, like cigarettes, are made from cured tobacco leaves.
