Celebrating Jennifer May: A Champion of Lung Health and Recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal

We are thrilled to extend our congratulations to Jennifer May, Vice-President of Health Promotion and Government Relations for Lung Saskatchewan, who received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal on May 12th, 2023. Jennifer was nominated by Honourable Paul Merriman, Minister of Health, as a well-deserved recognition to her incredible 25-year journey in lung health.

We celebrate Jennifer’s outstanding achievements and express our gratitude for her remarkable commitment to lung health. Her work has been invaluable in shaping policies and raising awareness to protect public health.

About Jennifer May

Jennifer's career has been dedicated to tobacco control and advocating for positive change to protect public health. As the Vice-President of Health Promotion and Government Relations for Lung Saskatchewan, Jennifer spearheads provincial respiratory health promotion activities, including education, prevention, and cessation initiatives, advocating for tobacco control policy, radon awareness, environmental issues, and is the co-founder and adult advisor of the provincial Youth4Change movement. She is a recognized national spokesperson on various respiratory-related topics.

Jennifer's journey began with her Bachelor of Education degree, and shortly after started her career with Lung Saskatchewan. Her work also extends beyond Lung Saskatchewan, having served as a bureaucrat in the Tobacco Control Programme at Health Canada, where she later returned to Lung Saskatchewan.  

Throughout her career, Jennifer's passion for advocating for change has been instrumental in driving significant legislative and policy advancements in Saskatchewan, and federally for Canada. Her efforts, in government relations and advocacy initiatives have led to the establishment of Saskatchewan's provincial tobacco legislation in 2004, an asbestos Bill in 2013, vaping legislation in 2020, and numerous other policies and municipal bylaws. Jennifer's commitment to protecting public health has left a lasting impact on the province, and our country.
