Every Call to the Lung Saskatchewan Helpline is a Human Story
Have you ever noticed how easy breathing is—until it’s not?
Now imagine struggling to breath easily, without answers, guidance, or even someone to talk to. That is the daily reality for thousands of people across Saskatchewan living with lung disease. But thanks to donors like you, many of them are no longer alone. They have someone to turn to. They have the Lung Saskatchewan Helpline—and you make this work possible.
A Lifeline That’s Never Been More Vital
In recent years, we’ve seen an alarming rise in respiratory conditions. Factors such as wildfi re smoke,
and chronic illnesses like asthma, COPD, and sleep apnea have caused a sharp increase in calls to our
Lung Helpline. In fact, we’re projecting a 33% increase since 2022.
Every call is a human story. A mother trying to understand her child’s asthma. A grandfather worried about his new sleep apnea diagnosis. A woman, recently diagnosed with COPD, searching for answers.
And when they call, they are met not by a robot, not by a script—but by real people. Caring, knowledgeable Certified Respiratory Educators and Registered Nurses like Jill and Jaimie, who offer personalized education, reassurance, and connections to life-changing resources.
“I Was Overwhelmed—But They Gave Me Hope”
When Mona from Prince Albert called the Lung Helpline after being diagnosed with COPD, she was overwhelmed and frightened. But her story is now one of resilience.
“Speaking to a Certified Respiratory Educator gave me not just information—but hope,” she said.
Your support made that possible. Because of your generosity, the Lung Helpline isn’t just a phone number—it’s a source of strength, a first step toward stability, and sometimes even a life-saver.
But We’re Reaching Our Limits
While we are proud of the difference we make every day, we are also deeply concerned: demand is outpacing our capacity. The complexity of calls is increasing—many individuals live with multiple chronic conditions, needing more time and attention. Our current team is working at full capacity. As demand grows, so does the wait for vital information and support.
We don’t want anyone in Saskatchewan to wait when they need help with their lungs
Your Support Helps Saskatchewan Breathe Easier
To meet this growing need, we’re ready to take the next step—with your help. We have a plan to expand and evolve the Lung Helpline so we can respond more effectively, and more broadly than ever before.
Here’s what your donation will help us do:
Add Helpline Staffing – $45,000
We need to hire a part-time Certified Respiratory Educator to improve our response and capacity. This will reduce wait times and ensure we can attend to every call.
Embrace Emerging Technology – $5,000
We plan to launch a secure chat platform so individuals can access evidence-based lung health support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Technology can help us extend our reach, triage cases faster, and ensure consistent care, even outside of regular hours.
You are not just supporting a phone line—you are investing in a smarter, more responsive lung health support system.
You Make This Work Possible! None of this happens without you.
Your support helps Saskatchewan breathe easier. Every donation ensures that someone with lung disease gets compassionate, informed help. It means that parents sleep better at night, knowing they understand their child’s asthma. It means that a senior navigating oxygen therapy doesn’t have to do it alone.
And it means that when Mona calls, someone picks up the phone and stays on the line until she feels understood.
