I knew when I joined The Lung Association, Saskatchewan in early 2017 I had some very big shoes to fill, my predecessor Dr. Brian Graham had been holding the position for more than 30 years and is known as a world-renowned researcher on pulmonary function studies.  Driven by passion for his work, determination to accomplish goals, a desire to collaborate, and a vision to improve respiratory health, Brian helped bring many “firsts” to the province – related to pulmonary function, tuberculosis, sleep apnea, COPD, asthma, patient education, research, tobacco legislation and even the development of the national Lung Association website, one of the first of its kind, at the time, in the world.

Almost three years later as I prepare to leave the organization I have been reflecting on what “firsts” I with The Lung Association, Saskatchewan staff team under the guidance of a strong and committed volunteer Board of Directors have helped bring to the province and I am pleased to say there are many.

Our friends Dr. Vern Hoeppner, Kathleen and Brooks McMullin stopped by our office to present a $2,500 gift to The Lung Association, Saskatchewan and a Brooks McMullin original painting titled 'A Unified Vision to End Tuberculosis'.

The donation was made on behalf of a research project Vern and his colleagues have been working on: Recurrent TB in Canada, Translating Whole Genome Sequence Insights into Best Public Health practice.

The Lung Association, Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF) are pleased to announce the Collaborative Innovation Development Grant of up to $50,000 per project for 12-18 months. This grant fosters creativity, novelty and innovation in collaborative research, strengthening future funding applications by providing seed funding for ideas that are supported by a sound rationale and feasible plan, but not necessarily preliminary data.

Launch Date: June 13, 2019

Thank you to all who attended our first ever Perfectly Paired - Women + Philanthropy event on July 23rd! We had a great time making new connections, hearing from an impressive panel and enjoying delightful wine.
