As school routines settle in, extra curricular activities resume, and we embrace the change of seasons, we seem to welcome cozy sweaters, cool evenings and the completion of successful and safe harvests. Fall is often a bustling for us at Lung Saskatchewan and this year is certainly no different! Please read on to learn more about our lineup of programs and events coming to you this fall.

Tackle Radon has kicked off across Western Canada to encourage everyone to test their homes for radon and prevent lung cancer.
We are excited to announce a NEW EVENT happening November 24th called 'Cabaret'. Don't miss out on a fabulous night of entertainment unlike any other!
We are hosting eight webinars for health care professionals, on a variety of topics including Indigenous Care in Lung Health, and the Fall Webinar Series. Read on to find out more about what we have in the queue and to register for the ones that are interesting to you!
Pictured above, our Health Promotion team recently attended the Treaty 4 Days in Fort Qu-Appelle valley and was able to spread the word about vaping education and our Youth4Change program. Read the story below to learn more.
Last, but certainly not least, we have support group meetings scheduled for Sleep Apnea and a meeting open to everyone with lung disease discussing the importance of Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Radon Is In Your Home. Is Your Family Protected?

Meet Kerri and Christine, lung cancer survivors.

Radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Ambassador's Kerri Tucker and Christine Elliott were both diagnosed with lung cancer from radon. Join Kerri and Christine as they share their lung cancer journeys and encourage all Canadians to test for radon.

“I had heard of radon but I didn't think it was anything I needed to worry about until it was. When I was diagnosed with lung cancer, the conclusion was radon since I had no other risk factors. I want people to be aware that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related death in Canada, and that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Lung cancer from radon is preventable and I want people to test their homes.” - Kerri Tucker

NEWS

On September 14th and 15th the Lung Saskatchewan Health Promotion and Youth4Change team along with Elder Clyde O’Watch attended the Treaty 4 Gathering in Fort Qu’Appelle. For the past 30 years, an annual gathering has taken place in the Qu’Appelle valley to reconnect, recognize, and honour the spirit and intent of Treaty 4 which was signed at this site.

A student activity tipi was set up and we had the opportunity to connect with over 300 students and educators from across southern Saskatchewan. Elder Clyde O’Watch shared knowledge about Traditional tobacco and the team shared information about smoking and vaping. Educators were provided with kNOw vaping school resources. Students completed Youth4Change membership cards and made a personal promise to live in a healthy way. Our team was grateful for the opportunity to connect with other student activity groups and experience Treaty 4 Gathering events.

Sleep Apnea Support Meeting

Anyone with sleep apnea, their family, partners, and caregivers are welcome to attend. The presentation topic is an overview of the Resmed, My Airview App and will be presented by Randy Spilchen, Respiratory Therapist and owner of Saskatoon CPAP Services.

Pulmonary Rehab for People with Lung Disease

This meeting will focus on the importance of Pulmonary Rehabilitation for chronic lung diseases and feature some of the programs available in Saskatchewan. Our presenter is Tristan Etcheverry, Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the Saskatoon Pulmonary Rehab Program.

People with COPD, pulmonary fibrosis or interstitial lung disease, and Long COVID are welcome, along with family and caregivers.
