{contact.email_greeting}, As fall approaches and we spend more time indoors, it’s a good reminder to take care of our lung health. This includes ensuring people with asthma especially school children, have up-to-date action plans, keep vaccinations current, and stay home when feeling unwell to protect yourself and others.
You may have seen our social media posts, read my opinion editorial, or listened to my interview on the Evan Bray Show about the Tobacco Settlement funds. Canada reached a $32.5 billion landmark agreement with major tobacco companies to compensate for the significant health, social, and economic damage caused by commercial tobacco products. Saskatchewan is set to receive approximately $700 million from this settlement. The Tobacco Settlement funds present an important opportunity to invest in commercial tobacco-related harm reduction and prevention. Lung Saskatchewan is advocating for a small portion of these funds to be allocated to such programs. By directing less than 5% of the funds and implementing the right framework, Saskatchewan could significantly expand initiatives AND improve health outcomes in the future, especially for youth. This fall, we have an exciting lineup of webinars and podcast episodes covering topics such as sleep apnea, interstitial lung abnormalities, RSV, COVID, and more. These sessions provide valuable information for anyone interested in lung health. Exciting news! The Breathe and Win raffle is back, and if you love traveling, this is your chance to win amazing prizes. Explore the Maritimes, Haida Gwaii, Toronto, or Winnipeg — home to the Thermëa by Nordik Spa. You could also win tickets to the Grand Slam of Curling, a life-changing jackpot and MORE! Be sure to read Elisabeth’s inspiring story about living with sleep apnea. Like many Saskatchewan residents, she faced challenges before receiving her diagnosis. Her experience highlights the importance of awareness and early detection and reminds us why celebrating our community’s achievements is so meaningful. SAVE THE DATE! Our Impact Luncheon is approaching, and we are excited to honour our amazing ambassadors, partners, and sponsors. We invite you to join us on Thursday, October 30th, 2025. Wishing you a healthy and enjoyable fall season!
