In 2019 in an effort to secure financial stability and reduce our real estate footprint, the Board and staff made the decision to sell the building that we purchased in 1987. Our new home effectively reduces our footprint by 47%, thereby significantly reducing our annual expenses. This not only enables us to remain nimble in these uncertain times, but also ensures that the most money possible is directed towards our mission activities in the areas of research, education, health promotion, and advocacy.
In July, the staff was able to view the new office and we were excited to see the space and envision what it will look like and the new memories we will create! The renovations are coming along nicely and we'll be sharing photos with you on social media of the progress.
In preparation for our move, the entire team has been busy packing and sorting through items. Last month, our former President Dr. Brian Graham, and current CEO, Erin Kuan, got together to look through some of our historical items. It was a wonderful afternoon as Dr. Graham shared his years of memories and knowledge with Erin and they found some amazing treasures from Saskatchewan's Sanatoriums that truly reinforce the historical significance of The Lung Association of Saskatchewan.
While it is bittersweet to be saying good bye to our longtime home on 8th Street, we are so excited to embark on this new chapter! From all of us at The Lung Association of Saskatchewan, we want to give a big heartfelt thank you to the 8th Street community for making us feel at home for so long. We can't wait to welcome everyone into the new space when it is safe to do so.
