Health Promotion Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY

Are you creative and passionate about health promotion? Then we want you to join our team! Reporting to the VP of Health Promotion & Government Relations, the Health Promotion Coordinator will build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders to increase awareness of, and support for, our radon and lung health awareness initiatives.  The successful applicant will be responsible for planning and executing successful health promotion programs in Saskatchewan.

An important issue regarding lung health is smoking and vaping use. Saskatchewan has some of the highest usage rates and through a multipronged approach including education, prevention, and cessation initiatives, we will work towards reducing smoking and vaping rates. Engagement will involve youth engagement and influence, the development of culturally appropriate prevention and cessation tools, and will support government relations/advocacy strategies to impact policy and legislative changes.  

Radon awareness is another important issue for The Lung Association. Working with many diverse stakeholders and funders, we develop creative and inspiring messaging to promote the testing of homes and businesses to protect lung health.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage with the public, youth, educators, and volunteers in the area of respiratory health promotion.
  • Lead the implementation of the radon program, including chairing the provincial coalition and developing creative marketing strategies.
  • Apply for funding opportunities and manages the reporting structures.
  • Deliver communications to the communities through events, presentations, information booths, and webinars.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and timelines.
  • Work with our marketing team to create and disseminate evidence-based respiratory resources for multiple audiences.
  • Provide evidence-based lung health public messaging that is effective and engaging through various communication platforms, campaigns and initiatives.  
  • Maintain current, evidence-based knowledge of respiratory health.
  • Execute reporting and monitoring mechanisms that track the progress and overall effectiveness of programs.
  • Analyze effectiveness of health promotion initiatives and report on progress internally and externally.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A university degree with specialization in Health Sciences, Education or Social Services, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and professional experience.
  • The ability to communicate in English.
  • Experience in facilitating community engagement or consultative processes.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Comfortable presenting to a variety of audiences and ensuring material is adapted to the audience
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies and engagement
  • Knowledge of health-related issues and those affecting First Nations communities is considered a strong asset
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently with minimal supervision
  • Adaptable and flexible
  • Creative
  • Confident self-starter with strong propensity for organization ability to manage multiple priorities

HOURS

Normal office hours between Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm with occasional evening and week-end working hours.  Our office is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and work from home options can be negotiated.

JOB TYPE

This is a full-time position including pension, dental and health benefits. There will be a six-month probation period.
